Save Money with Used Campers

The main motivator to buying used is the savings! From the second a new trailer leaves the lot, it begins depreciating in value. Even if the owner never used it and sold it a few months later, they would have to sell it for lower than the asking price. This is how you can snatch up used campers for significantly cheaper than their brand-new counterparts. Sometimes the owners kept up the used RV so well that you’ll forget it isn’t new.

Another reason used campers are much cheaper is due to technology. When you buy a new model, they often come operating the latest technology (like their GPS or engine). These technologies might not be that much more advanced than last year’s models. But they sure can cost the buyer more! When you buy used, you aren’t paying for the cutting edge technology that drives up the cost. Many customers are quite content with older models that don’t offer much of a performance difference.

 

Buying From a Dealer

If you decide to check out used RVs, you’ll be faced with two options. Go with an individual seller, such as someone off of Craigslist, or go through a dealership specializing in used campers. There are a few perks to going to a dealer.

First, used campers must go through an intense inspection process before the dealer can assign them a price. This often lets dealers catch issues the typical seller on Craigslist might miss. Dealers usually also run a service shop, so they can handle those small fixes right away. This saves you future repair costs.

Second, dealers need to protect their reputation. If a random individual seller rips you off, there is not much consequence for them. But if a dealer gives you a bad deal, you can take to the internet and give them bad reviews. Other future customers could read this and decide not to do business with them, which costs them future sales! Unlike private sellers, dealers are incentivized to provide fair deals.
